DogBasics Dog Training Lessons
Puppy, Basic or Advanced?
Once you have finished the Introduction
Course, you can pick lessons that interest you from
the lesson
list on the Introduction Course page. For example;
puppy socialisation, improving your recall, stay, walking
on lead, or try something new, such as; agility, clicker training, tricks, search and retrieve,
etc.
For
these further lessons, you can pay on the day or buy a book
of lessons for a discounted price. The price for each lesson
is £5. If you buy a book of 4
lessons the price will be
£16.
Puppy classes
We don't have specific puppy classes anymore because most of the dogs that come here for training are already under a year old. The socialisation sessions and lessons are of mixed ages, but we always assess each dog before putting them in a group, so that we make sure they end up in a group that they can enjoy. The very young puppies get to socialise with the more shy dogs in the Small Breed socialisation sessions, until they are confident enough to move up to the Medium Social. When they are really confident and boisterous, they can move up to the XL social, but this group is mainly for the older dogs.
Basic classes
Out of our Basic range you can choose between the
following type of lessons: Walk
lessons where we work on recall,
sit/down/stand, stay, walking on lead without pulling,
search (great for their mental stimulation) and focus
exercises. In the Basic
lessons we go through all the basics - sit, down, stay, not jumping up,
leave/relinquish, calm on cue/relaxation, distance control. We often
do the exercises in a playful way, for example training
stay by playing musical chairs. There are also Clicker
training, Search and Agility lessons.
Please also
read our basic
training article.
Advanced classes
Only advanced Agility is available for our most loyal clients, at the moment.
Agility classes
Our Agility lessons are very basic. Even though the
trainer is an Agility course instructor, we don't
have the full set of obstacles needed for proper
agility training, so this is not a suitable class
for those of you looking to compete or who are already
competing in Agility. These lessons are mainly held
for mental stimulation and fun for the dog and owner.
We currently have a 6 meter long tunnel, a full sized
A-frame, a full sized seesaw, flat tunnel, a table,
a long jump, 12 regular jumps and a couple of weave
sets.
First Aid classes
The First Aid lesson is mainly held by the head
nurse at Berry House Vet Practice, Philippa Jackson-Cox.
Philippa will give you examples of how to care
for your dog if he is badly wounded, when you should
rush to the vet and when you can care for the dog
yourself. She will also show you how to put a bandage
on your dog. After this you will be shown how to
teach your dog to accept a health check. This will
be followed by an introduction to FLP Aloe Vera
products (for more info see www.aloe4animals.co.uk)
for those who are interested. You are of course
welcome with any questions related to your dog's
health during this lesson.
